Not paid for by the government, paid for taxpayers who are actually working instead of sucking on the governments tit.

In America, $1000 a month for 320 million people would be $3.84 trillion dollars a year. If you taxed every American at 100%, that wouldn’t even fund half of the program.
26 March 2019, 16:44
It definitely looks more and more like the disagreement only the typical level will soon be not about if we do Ubi but how
26 March 2019, 15:44
You wan't a good example of what UBI is going to do, Look at increasing the minimum wage. More people are now in poverty because of it. Giving the population 1K more money without restructuring the economy is going to lead to inflation. Your inserting something that is not meant for the Old Free market economy.
26 March 2019, 12:06
A dream! That politics will kill.
26 March 2019, 09:00
With a restrictive version of UBI Being talked about in India right now. It will be really good if you include Hindi sub tittles...
26 March 2019, 08:31
1:35 I call bullshit, on only that part, maybe its right in a way that the poor wouldn't be wasting it on that stuff, like maybe 30% dont but the 70% that do aren't going to tell their bank if that's what they're doing.
25 March 2019, 23:56
Who says it's not going to be taxed? Lol ppl actting like the government is just going to give you money without it being taxed. Lol

With UBI will you still make videos Kurzgesagt? Then Ok approved. =P

UBI doesn’t work, and will make problems worse! Why? Because, and hear me out on this one, NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE!!! Let me repeat that: NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE!!! If you want to get rich, you HAVE to work for it! If you want to lose weight, you HAVE to work for it!If you want to be really smart, you HAVE to work for it! Simple as that! Sadly, the lefties will deny them, because they want America to turn into Socialism, and Socialism is what brought Venezuela to economic collapse to begin with!Bottom line, Universal Basic Income is a bad idea, and one that we don’t want in our country to improve the economy!

25 March 2019, 13:05
Abolish all existing welfare except the most severe of social safety nets and I would be fine with a UBI that keeps people just above the poverty line We don't even need to make it $1,000 cash, what about something similar to food stamps where it's essentially a form of currency dog-eared for things like rent/mortgage and utilities? Automation and machine learning means UBI will absolutely be needed some day (possibly quite soon), and even as a fiscal conservative I understand this is an inevitability. According to a quick search, those under 18 make up close to 25% of the population. How do we account for the idea of families under UBI? This is all well and good for single citizens, but a family can't survive on something anywhere close to that. Do we support it up to a certain amount? Both parents receive their individual payment, and the household receives a special bonus for each child... up to, say, two children. Any more than that and the state no longer supports new ones, we're not discouraging reproduction and we're not incentivizing abuse of the system either. So, cost of living expenses for 75% of the population adjusted for region, and then greatly reduced bonuses for the other 25% (those under 18). Let's get started with a very optimistic $1,000 a month for each adult. Current US population is ~325.7 million, 75% of that is 244.275 million. $12,000 a year for 244.275 million people comes out to... 2.931 trillion a year. Yeesh but do-able if we're mostly eliminating all existing systems. This is a conversation our generation (I'm under 25) is going to need to have, and we need to be ready. Just no god damn lunacy like the GND, no identity politics thrown in, and no obnoxious 'EAT THE RICH' socialist nonsense.
25 March 2019, 05:31
I love Kurzgesagt vids. But I think they're choosing the wrong sources on this one. As I see it, the only compelling argument for UBI is that replacing bureaucratic welfare systems with an automatic handout dramatically reduces the bureaucratic governmental cost as well as the cost of time and other requirements for the recipients. So I can agree with those angles. However, UBIs have so many economic and political negatives that it's just a bad idea. The suggestion that we should take the additional $$$ needed from the very rich to finance such a program never computes when you do the math. Bear in mind economic fundamental law. Make anything more expensive and you'll get less of it. That applies to very rich living or having business in the US. Also, by the same concept, if you pay everyone to NOT work, you're going to get more of that. In UBI attempts, that's been the result and it always will be. It's basic common sense economics. The point they make is correct that most people will work anyway. However, prosperity is based on production, i.e. work done. And if fewer people are producing, then prosperity diminishes. Further, more free riders puts more pressure on the producers--the people with jobs and businesses--to pay for the UBI program. The higher the UBI, the worse this problem will be.Further, another reality to keep in mind is that gov't programs almost always get bigger and almost never get smaller. (Thus, the quite correct reference to politicians promising more UBI.) So if you believe a low scale UBI makes sense, but the vastly more expensive middle class income level UBI doesn't, it's a virtual guarantee that the system will grow because political promises for handouts are likely to be popular, as they pointed out. UBI proponents should also consider this rather insidious possibility. The US federal gov't doesn't typically hand out $$$ no strings attached. And while that's a key discussion point when it comes to instituting such a program, there's zero guarantee that that won't change. The feds do this with education funding, roads funding and in other cases. Consider the following... They wish to pass some rather unpopular activity for each citizen which would be unconstitutional to make it "mandatory". However, they simply tie it to your UBI and say it gets reduced by 50, 75 or 100%, if you don't comply. And of course, they have to keep track of who doesn't do what they want. How many people are going to resist under those circumstances? (Hint: See economic law above.)UBI is sold as a panacea to many problems and in a snippet of arguments, it does. I'd love to have UBI for everyone as a stress reliever and option enabler. But when you look at the whole picture of possibilities and likelihoods that will occur, it's just full of negatives. Can't recommend.
25 March 2019, 05:09
No UBI, or welfare at all for that matter!
25 March 2019, 04:59
This is actually retarded. Giving 1000 dollars to every person will devalue the dollar way to much and would most definitely cause inflation. Just because it’s not being “created” it will be coming out of the virtual world into the real world. Most people don’t actually understand that half of our money are just “pixels on a screen” meaning they can’t be seen. With this being it won’t be necessarily the system being at flaw but the human mind. Do people forget that its human skepticism that causes inflation ? This is a horrible idea
25 March 2019, 02:48
I don't see how UBI could give the government more leverage than current welfare already does. I'd say the opposite is true. Rather than having populists who lobby for particular groups, essentially bribing them for votes, we'd have rules universal for everybody, making politics healthier. The video itself mentions cutting bureaucracy.
25 March 2019, 00:24
To everyone saying UBI is bad because communism: WRONG. Communism=common property (no private property) whereas UBI is just giving people the minimum amount needed to survive in 2019. Nobody's telling you to hand over your car keys, Comrade. To everyone saying UBI is bad because handouts: No. That's precisely what makes it GOOD. Besides the fact that I wouldn't have to worry about where I'm gonna get my next meal after the rent and electricity are paid, I have the OPTION of working. It's a CHOICE, not a NECESSITY. With UBI, I actually have a chance to become a successful musician. Sad to say but the bands/artists that blow up on FB seemingly overnight? Yeah, they're pouring like $80-100 in advertising every month or two.To everyone saying UBI is bad because Utopia: ...what the fuck is wrong with you? Why are you so obsessed with AVOIDING a world where there's clean air, no homelessness, and everybody can just kick back and relax? Why is that such a bad thing? I genuinely don't get it. If it's for challenge, most every GOOD sandbox game gets turned into a ridiculously difficult Battle Royale turd, so why not play those? Boom. All the challenge you need, right there at your fingertips. The thing that people need to accept is that not everybody wants to live their life in a constant state of anxiety and fear. Not everybody is okay with the idea of cutting the internet bill back to keep the heat and lights on. And honestly? You shouldn't be. But that's precisely what my point is: We should have the OPTION. The CHOICE. Live YOUR life that way if you want to, but don't drag the rest of us through the steaming pile of elephant shit that comes with it.Another thing to consider: If you don't want the handout, why not just... Ignore it? There's nothing stopping you from donating the money to charity, or to research towards a cure for cancer (not a treatment, a CURE that fixes the problem instead of just pointing radioactive material towards the tumor and crossing your fingers.) or even to your ass-backwards causes like anti-LGBT funding or your ridiculous protests of Planned Parenthood. You can automate the donations so you never have to worry about getting more than $5 a day, and then work yourself to death all you want! You'd be doing us a favor tbh. The less hate there is in the world, the better. We need UBI as much as GTA Online needs the old Absolute Menu back. If that doesn't show you how severe the problem is, nothing will. You're stuck in your cycle of constantly trying to de-evolve the human species, and because you refuse to change with the times, you'll fade into obscurity... and if you're remembered at all, it'll be as a broken relic from a primitive chapter of Human history.

Universal basic income will not work in the United States, because the prices of goods and services will go way up and make any free money basically worthless. Here in Los Angeles they raised the minimum wage. They had it go up every few years until it reached a certain amount. It started at around $10 then it went to $12 and then $15.00 an hour. I was super excited when I heard it was going up but then reality kicked me in the stomach. You know what all the business owners and property owners in Los Angeles did in response to the higher minimum wage ? They all raised their prices and rents. The idea of people having extra money bugged them so much they made sure they got all that money back. The employees raised their prices, because they were forced to pay higher wages, and the apartment owners raised the rents, because everybody was getting paid more and they wanted some of that extra money. So even though raising minimum wage was exciting at first, the reality is that there are thousands of businesses and landlords more than willing to collect that extra money you're getting. This wasn't free money like UBI. It was earned money but everybody wants a piece of it. It's so bad here in L.A. now the cheapest combo meal at a fast food place is $11.00+. The rents are more expensive than NYC now. The same thing will happen if people in America got UBI. Unfortunately in America if anybody finds out you're getting extra money they want it. With UBI everybody will know you're getting it and prices will go up everywhere. Rents will go up. UBI will make things worse not better. You don't have to take my word for it. Sit down and use some common sense. If you plan on never buying anything and never paying rent for the rest of your life then UBI might be good for you. But in the real world where we buy things and pay rent the prices and rents will be increased so much that UBI will be useless. Ask anybody in Los Angeles what happens when everybody gets extra money.
24 March 2019, 17:19
Stupid socialist idea. Socialism and communism don't work folks! Get over it. It failed each time and socialists revive it dressed in fake utopia promessing something for nothing. It will always fail because at its core is based on immoral coercive taxation that is against the divine laws of the this universe.

24 March 2019, 14:36
Communism but without the bad bits
24 March 2019, 13:15
nonono.. the answer is easy.. you just dont like it.. and if you try to do it you most likely cause a war... to have the UBI you need to balance the amount of money everyone has first. And taking away the money of rich people doesnt work.. you would need to fight to balance it..... civil war.... they would rather see the world destroyed than losing their money..
24 March 2019, 08:26
God bless this video:)
24 March 2019, 06:32
This would definitely create inflation, because when this money comes from wealthy people and businesses, they will have to adjust and increase prices to pay for the extra taxes which are certain.
24 March 2019, 06:30
This is literally distribution of wealth, let’s take money from the rich people who worked for it, and give it to people who don’t. This is bullshit
24 March 2019, 03:14
I'm in Saskatchewan Canada, looking at my life $1000 is enough for me to pay my rent and buy my food, it is not the best so i would want to get education to better my life. $1000 is not enough to get secondary education so i still need a job, you are right that rules for the UBI need to be in place so here are the rules i would recomend. If you have a income of $1500 or less you apply for funding, if you income is $3000 or above for 8 months your funding will be pulled (If you are in secondary education funding will be pulled after 18 months or when graduated).
24 March 2019, 00:42
ubi won't work because there are too many illegals here.
23 March 2019, 23:14
BTW that's not how inflation works... This is a tax on business, in order to make up for such a massive loss a business will in fact raise costs, thus inflation. They did as ass backwards version of it where they say the money supply is being injected with printed money , yes that too causes inflation but it's not how the UBI works. Also if the economy hits a slump in order to make payouts where does the money come from when tax revenues drop drastically? This is one of the worst it ideas and very bad people are scamming people that don't understand economics. You leave feeling like you have answers but every time you talk to someone that understand economics it will end badly. If they agree with you then they don't understand economics. For instance, why stop at 1k? If there is no downside why not make it 2k or 1 million? Show how giving each person in america 1 million a year is bad and you will have your answer as to why 1,000$ is bad too.
23 March 2019, 22:52
A greedy program meant to buy votes from greedy people.
23 March 2019, 22:09
One point from BigThink is missing here: Companies might start paying less, using the argument, that for survival, the employees already reviece UBI... What do you think?

Yang- “if you like your welfare you can keep your welfare.”
23 March 2019, 19:09
Let’s take care of universal health care and universal post secondary education before we just start giving away cash. A criticism of UBI that I don’t think was touched on (at least not very deeply) is that it gives people an excuse to point at recipients of UBI who still would not be able to afford expensive health care operations or, if they’re smart enough but not rich enough, admittance into even a state university, as being bad with money anyway. These specific social services (health care and post-secondary Ed) need to be addressed first.
23 March 2019, 18:19
If you currently need a ubi you’re the reason we can’t have one. Quit being so damn lazy
