For more Rolex watches without that ugly ass cyclops! That's what the people want!
14 July 2018, 20:25
Thank you. Excellent review. I just ordered my Sub No Date on 7/3/18. My five-year-old Oris Big Crown Pro Pilot Day/Date stopped working two weeks ago. It was out of warranty and would take two months to fix, so I bought what I always wanted, a Rolex. It took a very long time to research and find which Rolex model and my price point/range. Even though I love my Oris I would never ever by an Oris watch again. Warranty repairs were months and months, a nightmare for things that should be been right before the watch was ever sent out to the factory the first time. In the end, it was never repaired perfectly. Not sure how Oris stayed in business since being founded in 1904. I'm glad I paid only $1500 for the watch and now $350 for the current repair.

Do you still happen to have both pieces? I'm thinking of doing the exact reverse you did; currently have the 116710LN but want to add the 114060 for daily wear. Trying to mentally justify potentially having both lol.
18 June 2018, 17:38
The polished parts on the gmt just show scratches so much
8 June 2018, 07:07
I wouldn't call it an aviation piece...it's a watch for travelers (or the traveling executive). Not sure why you'd call it an aviation other than it might be a watch worn by pilots so they can remember the time in their home country?
7 June 2018, 00:00
For my money, these watches look way to similar. I would want a submariner and a datejust.
25 May 2018, 01:41
Why does the sub looks smaller than the gmt?
22 May 2018, 22:14
Wow..thanks. Good comparison. I thought that I was interested in the new GMT II, having already owned a Sub for over 10 yrs. So maybe not so much Now. 👍👍 the Bi direction bezel feels cheap compared to the Sub bezel.

The GMT is my grail watch, preferably in black/blue. I travel a lot, mostly around Europe but also further afield, so the dual time zone function is a big selling point. For the same reason I also like having the date function, although I will admit I have a love/hate feeling about the cyclops, mainly due to how it looks kinda weird when a hand passes through it, which I guess you’d notice more often with the additional hand of the GMT. But I’d definitely take the Sub’s all-brushed strap, with that higher level of adjustability, that’s a great feature.

I transitioned to a Batman after a new all black GMT with green hour hand... Due to exclusivity on the Batman... The all black GMT was more subtle to wear than the Batman. Then I added an Air King so have a more conservative watch than the Batman... and the watch which appeals to me more than the Batman now is the no date Submariner - since I basically regret dumping the all black GMT for the Batman. Hence all black GMT + Sub is a nice combo... Or sub + air king or all black gmt + air king.

Nice vid. I have the same exact two watches...
23 April 2018, 00:00
The GMT is the best more for your money but the strap on the Sub is better and nicer to me ..GMT with the Sub strap is the way to go : )

Sub date no date is to bland for me it’s like cooking with out salt and pepper in your food

Both beautiful watches. Congratulations on owning a Rolex.

I feel like the lugs are more beveled on the GMT. Is that my eye playing tricks on me?

Thanks for a very informative video. I find these kind of videos, with personal reflections, more interesting than the usual spec walkthroughs. I actually have owned the 16610LN, 114060, 116610LN, 116710LN and 116710BLNR - now I´m again looking for one of those watches but can´t decide which one to get. The Submariner is a real classic but a bit simple (almost a little boring) and quite heavy. The GMT is a more fun watch and feels lighter on the wrist, but it is a little too dressy with the polished centerlinks. Very hard to decide and the prices are crazy now, so for the time beeing I´m sticking to my Rolex Explorer I which I think is the perfect balance between sporty and dressy.
27 February 2018, 05:51
I'd go for the submariner
19 February 2018, 12:01
No-date has a more classy look. Really like it.
18 February 2018, 08:03
Good to hear a user centric review rather than the typical technical ones. Would like to hear your thoughts on the Submariner no date vs the updated Explorer I. Trying to decide which one I should get.
10 February 2018, 20:09
Hi man,,I have the 114060 ND and i am thinking of buying a second piece. Anyway it is very very difficult to deside... I can try to pick up the BLNR but it feels a bit ordinairy somehow, i can pick up the gmt 2 black with a discount from a good friend of me(brand new i also considered the exp.2 polar but i am sure i won't be content after with these 2 watch combination. How much watches do you own?? It would be my only 2 watches, so somewhere it feels stupid cause it is so similar, on the other hand i think the green and the cyclops realy pops out in real life...... How much watches is your full collection?
7 February 2018, 15:04
Great review! 👌🏻
4 February 2018, 03:21
Did you sell the GMT? How come?
22 January 2018, 03:47
I've had both the GMT II and the ND Sub. I sold the GMT and kept the ND. No regrets. I rarely if ever used the GMT functions, which for those who do are great. I always know what the date is, so it's not necessary to have one on my watch. The symmetrical look was the big draw for me. Nice video, btw. Thanks.
20 January 2018, 16:14
I bought my GMT 34 years ago and setting the watch is more difficult then your description of setting the submariner.
Time Will Tell
9 January 2018, 20:52
Adults should really know what the date is everyday and should also be able add or subtract hours to get different time zones, so the no date has to be the clear winner.
31 December 2017, 01:48
Great Review. It’s The Submariner for me. As a professional pilot AND a recreational diver, I certainly had to give the GMT some consideration, but I’ve always known that when I finally bought my first real watch it would be The Submariner. After 6 months of wearing mine daily I am very happy with it. The simplicity and symmetry of the Sub is perfect. While the GMT and date functions can be valuable to pilots and those crossing time zones, I’ve found it unnecessary with today’s cockpit avionics as I am usually staring at that information on the cockpit displays anyway. That being said, I wouldn’t mind adding a GMT to my small collection one day, but then you can only wear one at a time unfortunately, so maybe I’ll just stick with the Sub. You can’t go wrong with either though. Enjoy!!
27 December 2017, 16:22
Very good review LS. The Submariner's GlideLock is awesome in practicality. One used it's hard to live without. The GMT IIs 24 location bezel just turned out to be less useful than the Sub's 120 for my daily wear. Sub's lume pip on the bezel is also a useful plus. Both nice watches and if you are a pilot who travels through multiple timezones regularly, the GMT II is superior.
21 December 2017, 06:06
I want a Submariner No Date NOW. I'm calling around.
17 December 2017, 15:16
I own a GMT and i would never ever trade it for a SUB. Sub is more common and too boring compared to the GMT. Just my 5 cents though
14 December 2017, 08:09
I never knew the GMT had 4 👐 👐 hands!!

3 December 2017, 11:31
why is the rolex gmt II10,650AUD but the rolex submariner date is 10,800AUD? the gmt is cheaper but has a more complex movement.
2 December 2017, 04:18
good review man
30 November 2017, 01:57
Definitely the Submariner, it's my grail watch that I hope to have soon someday. Probably a bit more reliable too because it has less complications. I don't travel that much and I might go diving someday so the Sub wins for me, but if you can afford both that's also awesome!
28 November 2017, 02:50
Which watch would I own if I could own one? Easy, the GMT. It is more versatile and knowing the date is very useful.
26 November 2017, 02:26
No-date all the way. It's the simplicity and reliability that always drew me to this watch. I wish Rolex would make a no-date Hulk - nice green dial and bezel without the cyclops date feature.
25 November 2017, 01:48
GMT Master IIC any day...I like the Sub but the GMT is more versatile ....and 100 metre depth is sufficient.
16 November 2017, 04:08
Nice review. I'm struggling between the two, so I appreciate this. Both great watches. Only minor comment I have is I assumed you were going to do a lume comparison of both :)
9 November 2017, 01:53
great video. love both watches!
5 November 2017, 09:29
great video, well done. perhaps the more even comparison might have been sub date vs gmt, but this is splitting hairs. regarding what wins out of these two, well thats down to the individual. the sub is more suited as a tool watch, whereas the gmt lends itself more towards the dressier piece. they are both highly regarded pieces, you cant go wrong with either. regarding having to reset the gmt after its left for a few days, i find this therapeutic but to each his own, i understand it could be annoying for some. a simple solution is a watch winder.
